2PROGRESS REPORT | SEPT 1 - 5, 2022 | ATLANTA, GAannouncementsTo our members, fans, and continued supporters:Geesh. Here we are again. Getting ready to welcome home our amazing Dragon Con family while still working through a pandemic. We are so happy that the situation (as of this publication) is better than it was this time last year, particularly with severe illness associated with the pandemic, however, we aren’t quite ready to proclaim victory and party like it is 1999, errr…2019, with so many of our wonderful friends and family. As mentioned before, we will have an attendance cap that is higher than our 2021 numbers, but still makes it possible to leave a little room for everyone to move around. As part of that overall attendance cap, we will have a very limited number of one-day memberships for all days of the show for purchase on August 1st at 10a EDT. Mark your calendars now; these will go fast, particularly the much sought after Saturday. Prior to these memberships going on sale, we will be releasing our COVID precautions and rules. We continue to keep in touch with the experts and city, and work with our venue partners to make sure everyone stays safe and healthy. Badge checks will continue to be in place across the show to support the capped attendance and spacing. If you don’t have a membership for Dragon Con, we ask that you participate in some of our awesome virtual elements highlighted below, as the hotels will be closed to members only. Due to renovations and permanent construction at AmericasMart Building 1, the gaming events formerly located in Building 1 have now moved to AmericasMart Building 3. Building 3 is one block north and west (catty-corner) from Building 1, directly across John Portman Blvd from Building 2 where the Vendor Halls and Comic and Pop Artist Alley are located. More details can be found in the Gaming section of this Progress Report. We are happy to continue some of our virtual options from the past couple of years for fans that are not able to be with us and further expand the footprint and joy that is Dragon Con. Virtual happenings to expect include: streaming two never-before-seen panels per track over the course of the weekend on our Fan Track channel, broadcasting several of our Main Events from the weekend so you don’t miss out on panels or try to solve that forever question of how to be in all places at once, social offerings across all platforms aimed to include you from the comfort of your home OR the lobby of your favorite hotel. We will again host a virtual marketplace including Vendor Hall, Comic and Pop Artist Alley, and Art Show through our amazing partners at eveneny. You can pick up all sorts of goodies whether you are attending the event or not and it will even be open through Friday, September 9th. For the latest updates and information, our official social media channels will report any changes or important announcements. Please follow our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages to stay in touch. In the meantime, take a look through the pages of this booklet and see the great guests and events we have planned for our members so far. Just remember, any information here is subject to change as events and information continues to unfold. We continue to look forward with cautious optimism in hopes of making Dragon Con 2022 a fantastic event. We hope to see you there.

Our goal is to be the most accepting convention in the world regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, or planet of origin. There’s space for everyone to be who they want to be here in the Dragon Con community. We continue to focus on Rule #7: DON’T BE A JERK. For more information about our convention policies, please visit our website at https://www.dragoncon.org/about/dragon-con-policies/. • Shuttle buses will be available again this year, including the popular dedicated shuttle between the host only hotels. See the “Convention Services” section in this report for more information.REGISTRATION DETHRONED. . . LONG LIVE BADGE PICK UP!?!?Honestly, we should quit calling it Registration. We need to rename it to "Badge Pick Up" or "Badge Reclamation." Maybe even "Gimme My Badge?" "Badge Grabbing?" "Badge Gathering?"Why? Well, because, starting this year, you will not be able to pay for your membership at "Registration," aka "Badge Pick Up." All memberships must be purchased online via our membership provider: GrowTix. This includes single day and multiple-day memberships. Visit https://www.dragoncon.org/buy-now/ for more information. Please note that there is an attendance cap for Dragon Con for 2022. There will be a limited number of single day memberships for each day. They will go on sale after COVID protocols are announced and when they run out - no more will be added. If there are memberships available as we get to the convention, they'll be available for purchase - but online only. One more time: you will not be able to walk in to Registration, aka "Badge Pick Up," at the convention to purchase a membership. You MUST do it online. Sure, you can do it while you stand in line, or while waiting in Atlanta traffic (but not if you are driving of course), but the hard-working volunteers handing out badges will not be able to complete a purchase for you. They'll be busy scanning QR codes, verifying identification, and handing out badges to get you in and out as quickly as possible.Memberships can be picked up at Registration - which is really now just Badge Pick-Up - in the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel on the very bottom level. It's at the corner of Courtland St. and Andrew Young International Blvd., one block south of the Marriott. Here's a Dragon Con footprint map to help you out.And the hours of operation:Thursday: 10:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. Saturday/Sunday: 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. Monday: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

38PROGRESS REPORT | SEPT 1 - 5, 2022 | ATLANTA, GAALTERNATE & HISTORICAL FICTIONThe Alternate and Historical Fiction Track is the destination for all things bygone and never was. It covers everything from fan discussions of period films and TV, speakers on overlooked history and society milestones, to even demos of period costuming techniques. There is fun for all who fancy festive frolics through factual and fictional former times. The flux capacitor is set to give a peek into the past and future: fan panels on shows like Our Flag Means Death and The Gilded Age; maker panels on recreating vintage hair, makeup, and fashion; historical dives into spiritualism, powerful women, sea shanties, and even the cults of our beloved Dragon Con itself! For historians of all ages, there will be historical musical sing-alongs, build-your-own (and then race!) Splendid Teapot Racer, and more. This year, the Temporal Ball is back, prefaced by the ever-popular ballroom dance class! Events across hotels and the good ol' interwebs will take us through the ages with both in-person programming and virtual events to enjoy both at the con AND before. More details on precon online happenings can be found across our social media channels - Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/alternatehistory, Twitter at https://twitter.com/DCon_AltHistory, Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/dcon_althistory/ and YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzbMmPbV4bRnRdJ2zCYkPEA/featured.AMERICAN SCIFI & FANTASY MEDIA You better be using some super speed this year! At the heart of the Track, they focus on media content, big screen and small. With the pandemic production issues starting to fade, they have so much great content this year to cover. You can expect fan panels that look into the insanity of Marvel Disney+ series, the range of the MCU Multiverse, the shift from the CW to HBO for DC, and more! However, they’re not just superheroes here! There will also be content that looks at fan favorites like Upload, Raising Dion, and Russian Doll, as well as the fantastic movies that have come out on streaming and in theaters There will of course be some amazing guest panels as well, and where attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and get some answers on fan favorites. This year they are also expanding Lang Belta classes so you can truly manage the patois of a belter, just in time for the Black Moon (Mung Belék) Bar, that is docked at Tycho station, a place to socialize, practice those lessons, and chat up other Expanse fans, all while dodging some Inners at the next table. There’s a return of the One True Pairing panel, and this year they will have the Battle of the Chrises! You’ll get to compare Pratt to Evans to Hemsworth, with some classic Chrises as well. It should be a great year!AMERICAN SCIFI CLASSICS Between the time when Billy Ocean drank Atlanta and after the rise of the Con of Dragon, there were days upon days of geekiness undreamed of, where fans, festooned in naught but the finest cosplay and/or t-shirts, reveled at a programming track that dared to show Mac and Me on purpose, twice. Join learned individuals and emboldened goofballs, as they celebrate those awesome movies and TV sagas from the bygone realms of the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Let them tell you about the days of American Sci-Fi Classics. American Sci-Fi Classics features panels, game shows, giveaways, and events that venture into the archives of movie and TV awesomeness. This year, be part of the lightning-round hour of random movie madness at Roll-A-Panel. The track offers tributes to Nicolas Cage, fictional bands, sci-fi movie novelizations, GI Joe, and presents the charity lock-in movies, where you must donate to the Dragon Con charity if you want to escape. Also there will be talk about Conan the Barbarian, if Crom wills it from high on his mountain.Classics Track keeps Dragon Con going all year long on social media and with live YouTube shows every couple of weeks. Join the fun by searching fan tracks

By the time you get to Space Track in 2022, the long, long, long, much anticipated, first images from the James Webb Space Telescope will have been shown and likely many more since then. This is when Earthlings will truly begin to see the beginning of that Frontier! But there's so much more happening in the here and now.Remember that lunar eclipse that gave us almost 1 1/2 hours of a blood red moon? Astronauts are still being launched into space and spending time at the ISS. By the time of DragonCon, hopefully the long awaited LSL/Artemis launch will have occurred and the largest solar sail ever made (a project overseen by Dragon Con’s own Les Johnson) will be on its way to check out an asteroid. Psyche mission is scheduled to launch this fall. DART will crash into an asteroid weeks after Con is over. TESS should complete its exoplanet survey this year. India and South Korea will be launching missions. China is still roving the moon and the question is did it find water under its wheels? Expeditions on Mars are still in full swing. Perseverance is now exploring the floor of Jezero Crater and the Ingenuity helicopter has blown away all expectations and as of this report is still active! It has been known that Jupiter eats a fair share of comets/asteroids but research shows a larger than expected metalocity which means that during its early formation it likely gobbled up a large number of planetoids as well! And it's also now proven that plants can be grown in lunar soil!Still, the universe itself has a lot to tell. The area around our own Milky Way Galaxy's central black hole has now been image captured! Binary black holes that will merge to form a single massive black hole in a few million years have been captured. Astronomers have believed for a long time that there are 'free floating' black holes wandering our galaxy and scientists now believe they've found one! Ever heard of a 'brown dwarf'? Not quite a star but not a planet? Scientists believe there should be loads of them all through the galaxy and beyond and now they're finally finding them! There is ALWAYS something happening in space and the Space Track tries to keep you up to date on all of it. They Bring the Universe to YOU!STAR WARS TRACKHello there…You know the response, and you just heard it in his voice, didn’t you?Wow! What an amazing time to be a Star Wars fan! She lurked behind the structure of the escalator, peering at the line hugging the hall. They seemed fearless to her—even with all those monsters and elves and superheroes and villains clustered about jockeying in and out of the line. Should she step into the line? The teeth on that vampire looked too real to be fake. And, that zombie with the weeping wounds had to be real. The blood that oozed out of his injuries sure wasn’t ketchup. Should she rush back up the escalator and out into the street? Her deodorant, applied exuberantly this morning, began to fail her. It wasn’t the fear of all those others, she sensed, but her own. Maybe she should run back to her room and reapply. Deodorant was a poor substitute for courage. And, there he was. HER FAVORITE AUTHOR . . . THE AUTHOR . . . sauntering along with a cluster of laughing guests. One of them had the audacity to poke him in the arm with a jab that implied friendship. THE AUTHOR jabbed him back and clapped his arm around the guy’s shoulder. A female elf, with long silken blonde hair, slid her

Chat Noir and Ladybug stepped in front of THE AUTHOR and handed him a book and pen. THE AUTHOR actually signed the book! They gave her the courage to step into line. “Great costume,” a guy said, joining her in the line.“Thanks,” she whispered back. “Yours, too.”She instantly felt at ease. Their conversation took off as they compared notes about their favorite books and authors. Just inside the door, THE AUTHOR took a seat at the front of the room, and, the sharing of knowledge began . . .XTRACK/PARANORMAL Aliens, Ghosts, and Bigfoot, OH MY! Additionally, the pièce de résistance of the entire weekend is a 4-part canvas auctioned that each artist has beenencouraged to draw, paint, or color on throughout the entire weekend. The charity auction is held on Monday morning, and is definitely something you don’t want to miss!A children’s sketchbook was introduced in the Art Show in 2021 and was so successful that it will return for the foreseeable future. While supplies last, your little artist can pick up a sketch book at the information table in the Art Show and walk around to find artists that will be happy to sign their book! This special treat is in both Comic and Pop Artist Alley AND the Art Show, and is great fun for your blossoming artists to begin engaging in the art world. As always, art IS subjective; so you might want to check it out, prior to bringing smaller children.Be sure to check the Dragon Con website for a complete list of artists who have been invited for 2022 including the talented Stephanie Law, the 2022 Artist Guest of Honor. The 2019 Artist GOH Julie Dillion will also be returning and you will have the chance to meet dozens of other trailblazing artists that call Atlanta “home” for Labor Day Weekend. When the available seats run out, disability seating will no longer be available for that panel. In any situation where seats remain at the completion of the loading process, our existing policy will apply – we will do our best to accommodate attendees, but no seating will be guaranteedCONSUITEThe Hospitality Suite, aka the Con Suite, is a place for convention attendees to relax, get a bite to eat, and/or a soda or juice to wet their whistles. Located in the Hyatt, the Con Suite will provide snacks, as well as some larger grab and go options around meal times. Opening around noon on Friday, the Con Suite stays open around the clock until Monday afternoon, with intermittent closures for cleaning, zombie outbreaks, maintenance, and/or mental health purposes.INFORMATION BOOTHSThe information booths, located in each of the five host hotels, are your one-stop centers for getting all your questions answered. The booths exact location will be available on the mini maps provided in the Dragon Con 2022 App. The staff will be able to help you find where everything is located and help with just about any other question or request you may have. And if they don’t know the answer, they’ll send you directly to the person who does.COURTESY SHUTTLE BUSESDragon Con provides courtesy shuttle bus service between all main convention hotels and some of the overflow hotels during most hours of the day and night. We are proud to again offer a dedicated shuttle bus that only travels between the host hotels, as well as TWO special shuttles for the Night at the Georgia Aquarium.
